Update Request Reminders for Specific Condition

I want to use update requests to allow individuals to upload a supporting document as an attachment to a row OR paste a link to document in a column. Let's call it the "Documentation" column.

Users will usually add a new entry to the sheet and then get the needed documentation at a later date so we want to remind them to add it to the Smartsheet for tracking without having to chase them down. (Right now, we manually send emails soliciting the documentation).

Is it possible to set an update request that is a) only triggered when the "documentation" column is blank and b) reminds them to submit the update on a schedule until the documentation is provided?

You would also need some sort of indicator column such as a checkbox. You can set up the Update Request trigger to be date based. Click on "Run Once" and select "Custom" to specify a frequency.

Use a dual condition of the [Documentation] column and checkbox column both being blank. This will send your regular / recurring update requests.

You are also going to need a change cell automation. The trigger will be when an attachment is added, and the action will be to check the box previously mentioned. This will automatically check the box when someone uploads an attachment which in turn will deactivate the update request from running on that row.

Unfortunately, Smartsheet doesn't currently support setting up an update requests (or automations) directly based on the absence of an attachment.
