How have you creatively implemented reporting via Generate Documents? Timelines? Project Status?

Hi!

I am building a program management tool with multiple projects with their own WBS. I want to create a few different PDFs which can be automated send to key leaders in the project weekly to highlight any major changes, and visually display a timeline (since timelines can't be embedded into Smartsheet dashboards … yet!). Does anyone have any creative examples of how you are using generate documents successfully? Especially incorporating data across multiple sheets? THANKS!!!

Currently, Smartsheet workflows generate documents on a per-row basis, so it's not possible to pull multiple rows into a single document. However, you can vote for this existing product idea: Select multiple records to fill in a document.

Here are some alternative approaches:

• Use Calendar or Gantt View for Timelines:
  • Calendar View provides a visual layout of scheduled work.
  • Gantt View offers a structured timeline for project tracking.
• Embed These Views in a Dashboard: You can publish your sheet in Calendar or Gantt view and embed it using the Web Content Widget. When publishing in Gantt view, it will default to Grid view, but users can manually switch to Gantt once embedded.
• Export Sheet to PDF: Automate recurring email exports of your sheet or report as a PDF or Excel file. More details here: Use send as an attachment to generate recurring exports.
• Copy Rows to a Single Sheet: Use an automated workflow to consolidate specific data into one sheet, making it easier to generate documents.
