Creating a dashboard from a project template

Hello. I created a project template to use for our quarterly project. I want to create a dashboard in conjunction with the template. when we make updates it can be reflected on the dashboard for leadership. How do I create a dashboard? I have tried Smartsheet will not allow me to edit it.

do you have admin permission setup to the Dashboard?

it seems you are just a viewer.
