One of my team members received a desktop dry erase board from one of the suppliers he works with and gave it to me. I am OBSESSED with it. It is so nice to have it write in front of me to jot down quick ideas or to-do's on the fly instead of using post its. I honestly dont think I'll ever go back!

My boss received a really nice rolling back pack with an extendable handle. He didn't want it and gave it to me. Now, when I need to take my work laptop and files home I have a rolling backpack to carry that weight!

Impossible to pick just one… Below my monitors is filled with pics of my family intertwined with the many small gifts they have given me (Legos, Star wars coasters, a wooden camper and much more)! Each and every picture or gift has it's own special meaning.

I have a notebook to write jokes in. The routine of breaking from my computer and writing something on paper (like in olden days. LOL!) keeps me creative.
Now before you ask, I don't consider myself funny and if you read my jokes, you wouldn't think I'm funny either.

For the sake of the image, I combined several into one. My favorite things on my desk and nearby shelf are what I call my guardians. Each reminds me to fight the negativity that often flows through my mind in their own way. I remember the mythology of the gods, the poetry of Shakespeare, the guidance found in meditation, Japanese comics to transport you to a world of magic, and the abundance of color and beauty. My guardians are there sitting patiently for when I need the world and chaos to stop, to always offer me a means to find pockets of joy and peace and the space to think.

This little furry guy—Dug, from Up, has become my new best [desk] friend. As you can see, I like the 2009 movie Up. However, this stuffed animal is pretty new. My daughter, Ellie (there's another clue) asked my mom to buy this stuffed animal for me during our recent trip to Disneyland. This trip was just after our dog, Flynn, had passed away. My daughter understood just how much I loved Flynn, and since Flynn looks like Dug, she knew it would mean a lot to me. He now sits on my desk as a friendly reminder of my best friend, Flynn. His paws are the perfect size for a hand rest, making him a stress relief as well.

As a side note, I work from home, so no one asks why I have a giant stuffed animal on my desk. My 5-year-old and 3-year-old seem to understand 🤣

I wish i had something really good to share but my desk is pretty minimal. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD so when things are messy, my brain is messy. I do however, enjoy the sweet treat that my son leaves me on my desk every day before he leaves for daycare 😍

My desk is pretty much neat with some artwork, reminding me of my kids as we recently became an empty nester!

  • This little Mug Rug, gifted from a colleague, reminds me that the attitude we approach a challenge with makes all the difference.

  • First time poster over here. It is lovely to meet you all. I was not aware we could make fun usernames so I went with boring and safe. If I could change it, I may change it to "Your_Royal_Flyness" since I am a pilot. :-)

Now to the question. First I was thinking my computer because without it, I would be staring at black monitors all day not doing anything. @Protonsponge - I am right there with you - I have two monitors and they are must. Then I was like…..well, that is practical and I think we are going for fun like @Ray Lindstrom. @Ray Lindstrom, have you thought about turning your son's message into a mug, tumbler, mouse pad, etc.?

I am having my ceilings in my home painted so I removed all the fun things off my desk (pipe cleaner animals my colleagues made me from three moves ago, this pretty gold and pink sand thing you can rotate and it will make different designs out of the sand, a photo of my husband and me from our honeymoon in a sand picture frame - it gets sand everywhere. I do not recommend buying one :-), and other fun things. So I am left with the practical items. The most fun I can make out of my practical items is my webcam. As a 100% remote employee that meets with colleagues all over the globe, it allows me to connect with colleagues on a more personal level and allow my extrovert side to stay full. I can change my background to celebrates holidays, events, birthdays, spring, photos I took, or keep it professional with your standard backgrounds…depending on the audience.
