Barcodes not scanning correctly

I am using various types of barcodes to scan into records on Smartsheet and it's getting the barcodes wrong more than half the time. No error messages, just getting them wrong. Missing letters, duplicating letters or just adding unnecessary characters to the front.
What is the best format to use when generating barcodes, that Smartsheet will read the most accurately? I can pretty much make up whatever I want for our use case.

Barcode scanners are basically keyboards but with a laser light show built in for a bit of fun and excitement. So errors are usually (not always, but most of the time) an issue with a driver incompatibility and not the output platform itself.
I would recommend you use the 128 encoding. It's been around for long enough that driver errors would have been ruled out earlier.

That's what I'll stick to then, thanks. It does appear to still make some mistakes but not like what I was seeing before.
