Automation email with Dropdown values

I am trying to set-up automation email and include values from a field which is a dropdown. Can it be done in smartsheet? I have tried placeholders but it doesn't work, it's only working with text fields.

@schawl all fields have a text display value which can be used for email. Worst case just add a helper column that references it directly as text (sometimes we do this with numbers to change the formatting)
