Automation Trigger Help

In the Project Management Learning Path via Smartsheet University, I'm running into an issue where it will not allow me to run the 'Regular Task Update Request' weekly on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as the instructions ask me to do. My only options are X days before, X weeks before, X days after, and X weeks after. There is no 'Weekly on…' or 'Daily on…' options available for me to choose from. All things seem to be equal, so not sure what I am doing wrong or overlooking? I've attached a screenshot of the instructions for reference.

    Think it out:

You've got some of it: your trigger is "When a date is reached." That date is every single week, on specific days. So you'll need to make the run cadence Custom (as opposed to "Run once" that is the default for new automations - you can find the dropdown for that in the area of the automation your screenshot highlights with the arrow).

The next window is where you set the cadence. You've already established the cadence as every 1 week. Elsewhere in that window, you can choose which days to Repeat On.

Apologies for the giant screenshot; I am trying to change how I include it.

Good luck on your learning! Always exciting to see others embarking on the path!

  • @Kerry St. Thomas- Thank you so much for your thorough answer! When the instructions said to 'customize' the trigger. I didn't realize there was an additional dropdown to where I could change it from once to custom. That makes a ton of sense now and thank you for all the guidance. Not all heroes wear capes!
