Imagine you have a big box of toys, and you want to make sure everyone gets the toy they like the most. As a Business Analyst, my job is kind of like that! I help people figure out what they need and how to make things work better. I look at all the toys (or information) and decide the best way to share them so everyone is happy and things run smoothly. 😊

I would describe my job to a 5-year old as:

I put pictures, words, numbers, and graphs on slides. Leaders at my company want to see big line go up, or big line go down, depending on the situation. It's my job to help them understand why the line is going up or down, so we can make adjustments as a company.

Healthcare IT Project Manager: I help doctors and nurses use computers and special programs to take care of people so they can see the bones inside of you. It's like making sure their superhero gadgets work perfectly!
Quality Management Manager: I make sure everything is done really well and safely. It's like being a teacher who checks if everyone is doing their homework correctly. Then I create pictures with words so they keep doing it the same way.

That is a very good question that I am still seeking the answer to myself. If you ask anybody at my company what my role is, you will get just as many answers. So I would probably turn the question around to the 5 year old and ask them what they think my role is and it is probably a better answer. Going forward I could use that 5 year old's summary to explain my role when asked by others! 😋

I help a large team ensure everything works just right, like when Bandit and Chilli get everyone out the door on time! We create effective plans, select the right tools, and ensure everyone knows their assigned tasks. It’s kind of like being the grown-up in a big game of pretend, where I help the team work together behind the scenes so the stores can do their part and everything goes smoothly, just like a good game of Keepy Uppy!

How would I describe my job to a five year old? (I am a Digital Project and Innovation Manager BTW).

Imagine a big, busy farm where everyone is trying to grow the yummiest berries and fruits. Now, imagine I’m like a wizard with a magic backpack full of gadgets! My job is to help the farmers and workers use clever machines and smart ideas to make their work easier and faster.

If someone says, ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if we had a robot that could find the ripest strawberries?’—I jump in and say, ‘Let’s make it happen!’ I gather the right people, test the magic robot, and make sure it works like a charm. I help turn good ideas into real-life helpers. I’m the person who makes the future show up a little sooner.

I'm a strategic data analyst!

Meaning I use what I can measure and observe (data) to form good ideas and opinions (analyst) about how to make the best plans for my business (strategic).

I'm like my team's gardener! I look at how well the garden is doing to see how we can grow more plants each season. If a certain type of plant is doing really good, I know that we should plant more. If a plant isn't doing well, I try to see if there are small changes we can make to help it grow better next time, like giving it more sun or watering it more often.

By looking at how happy the garden's plants are, measuring how big they grow, and paying attention to things that hurt the plants, such as cold weather or pests, I help my team's garden grow and become more amazing each and every year.

Once upon a time, in a big building where grown-ups worked hard to help keep everyone healthy, there was a special helper – that's me!

Imagine that our town has a special box of tools to help people live happy and healthy lives. These tools could be things like going to the doctor, getting medicine, and knowing how to make healthy choices!

My job is like being a super-organized detective for that big box of tools. I make sure everyone who needs a tool can get one, that it's the right size for the job, and that they know how to use it.

Some people who need our tools are having a hard time. They might have lost their job or maybe they are very sick. I do everything I can to make sure the tools in the toolbox will make them feel better. I am very thankful I get to help them and that I get to take care of our tools. ✨

For a 5-year-old, I'd just slightly tweak it: "It's my job to make it easier for other people to do their jobs!"

If I had to explain it to a 5-year-old, I’d say this:

“I help grown-ups get unstuck. If their team is confused or things feel messy, I swoop in like a helper superhero to show them better ways to work together, stay organized, and actually finish things. I use charts, plans, and a little bit of computer magic to make it happen.”
