How to set start date independent of predecessors?

Hi Community,

I'm trying to figure out how to set a task start date without wiping out the predecessors but I can't figure out how?

I've seen other posts with slightly different queries where people would simply suggest adding lag times or something similar so here's some additional info to show why that wouldn't work for what I'm requesting:
The purpose being that there are optimal times for for tasks to occur depending on various factors such as day of week, month, resource/material availability, transport, space, etc. But the various predecessors still need to be completed before this date and if not this date needs to push out. Now these tasks of course, do not have lag times with the predecessors, it simply required them to be finished. If I added lag times to fudge the start date then as soon as that predecessor moved even a little it would push out my tasks start date, which is obviously unacceptable.

Hi Ryan,
Since, smartsheet does not have a Date Dependency feature, when I have this situation I create an extra Task A above the Task B, and name this Task A - something like "Start No Earlier Than "( or, "SNET", "Start Task xxxx", "Date Dependency", etc), then on Task B add a FS dependency on Task A."

Adding Task A, as a zero day duration, will just appear as a milestone symbol on the gantt.
There are really no other options.

I was afraid of that… I need to work with client programs and can't go adding additional tasks.
But you're correct, that would have been a functional workaround otherwise.
