Linking two sheets in a very specific way

Hello all! Like my title says, I am trying to link two smartsheets in a very specific way. I have a process in which I have individuals requesting support for specific courses this is tracked in one sheet. I then have a second process that hires people to provide support for those classes. Where I am running into trouble is matching the support provider with the person who needs that support (I need to match by the course).

Can anyone share any formulas or techniques they have found that might help me link the sheets in this way?

Example - Student on sheet 1 needs support in math. Student on sheet 2 can support that specific math class. Is there anyway to use smartsheet to bring the information from sheet 2 over to sheet 1 while matching them with the correct student on sheet1? Or even using a 3rd sheet or report as a meeting place for the information?

Hi. Something that I find valuable is maintaining a master resource sheet that I can use to VLookup and pull in data into another sheet.
So in your case (If Im understanding what you're looking to accomplish) I would:
Create a master sheet of the teachers with all of their contact info, course skillset, etc… And use that to Vlookup the instructor and pull it into the support request sheet
*You will need a unique identifier to match between the two sheets, so you'd need to find something that can uniquely bind the two together and be on both sheets. Perhaps a join helper column to combine the course plus "support" plus one other element of info - Date? (I.E: MathSupport8/21/25) And use that as your reference point to vlookup.

You may also be in a position to simply use an automation to assign educators to support requests.
I.E: If the request is for Math and the only Math provider is Joe Smith, then assign Joe Smith.
In that case you wouldn't necessarily need the 2nd sheet - you can just report off the main request sheet to offer the providers a schedule of their assignments.

**Hoping that all makes sense. It's challenging to truly know the best solution without seeing things in action sometimes.
