Hi everyone 👋
I work for a mid-sized company (~5,000–6,000 employees) that’s heavily invested in Microsoft technologies — we use Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and more. At the same time, Smartsheet is widely used across our teams, especially for project tracking and collaboration.
Right now, we’re in the middle of evaluating our long-term tech stack. Personally, I see Smartsheet as a powerful front-end tool for citizen development, enabling rapid prototyping and solutioning. This approach could allow teams to wireframe and iterate quickly in Smartsheet, while reserving Power Platform for prioritized, enterprise-grade solutions. Ideally, this helps reduce Shadow IT by giving users a sanctioned space to build and test ideas without needing to seek external tools or platforms. This is not yet the path and just an idea I had.
With that said, I'm exploring whether it’s viable — and cost-effective — to continue using both Smartsheet and Microsoft Power Platform together. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tried this dual-platform approach.
Here are a few questions I'm curious about:
- What business outcomes have improved by using both platforms?
- Have you seen cost savings, efficiency gains, or better data quality?
- How do you decide which tool to use for a given use case?
- What are the biggest technical challenges you've faced?
- How do users perceive the differences between Smartsheet and Power Platform tools?
- If you were starting from scratch, what would you do differently?
Also — if you’ve had success using both and would be open to a short chat, I’d be incredibly grateful. We’re trying to learn from others as we navigate this landscape and would love to hear your story.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
