Question

I need help with hyperlinking in Board view. I have a dropdown column that allows multiselect, but is not restricted. In Grid View, I have added some hyperlinks to this column instead of one of the dropdown options. In Grid View these are visible and work as expected. When I change to Board View, I cannot even see that there is text in that field.

Looking through other strings, there was a recommendation to remove the Display Text and just list the URL, but that does not work. Neither do hyperlinks linking to another Smartsheet. In Card View, I can view & click these links normally, as well, but not in Board View. I've also tried unlocking the column to no avail.

Additionally, I have tried changing the column properties to Text/Number, but the only change is now I can SEE the hyperlink text, but I cannot click it. Ideas?

Hi @Natalia Kataoka,

Having tested this on my end, I was able to confirm that hyperlinks in dropdown multi-select columns do not show on the card in Board View and even the text for that column doesn’t show. Changing the column to a dropdown single-select column resulted in the text showing on the card in Board View, but not as a hyperlink.

However, when I changed the column to a Text/Number column, the hyperlink was visible and clickable (for URLs to Smartsheet items as well as other URLs) within the card, as seen below:

I noticed that your screenshots show the details panel (the side panel that opens when you click on a card in Board View). Currently, hyperlinks are not editable or clickable within the details panel, and can only be accessed from the card itself, or accessed and edited within Table or Grid views. Take a look at the message in the screenshot below:

So, to summarise, it’s currently expected behaviour that hyperlinks are uneditable and unclickable within the details panel in Board View, but hyperlinks on the cards themselves will show and be clickable when the column type is Text/Number.

If you’re finding that hyperlinks are not showing on cards in Board View even when your column is Text/Number, I recommend creating a Support ticket to have the team investigate the issue.

The follow up on this. The issue was that I dragged a card from one to another, which apparently broke all the sorting from Grid view. To remedy this, support had to go in on the backend and remove that.
