Which template to choose?

My small civil engineering company is brand new to Smartsheet. I will be overseeing about 70+ projects spread out over 8 engineers in the company. I want to track the status of each project, and add milestones/tasks to each one along the way. Each project also has its own budget. I want to be able to track each project & budget individually, and see all the projects & budgets as a whole. We also have Resource Management, if that matters. What easy, basic template would you recommend?

Also, would each project get it's own sheet? Would they all be in the same workspace? Still learning….

At that scale, my suggestion would be to leverage Control Center to replicate a template. The template itself, I would end up building from scratch as Control Center has its own quirks and whatnot but can be very powerful when replicating a template and rolling up various metrics.

It sounds like the start of your template would be a Project Dashboard, Project Plan, Budget Tracker, and Metadata sheet. It will most likely expand with other metrics sheets and reports as you determine what it is you need on the dashboard and how best to present it.

From there you would create a "My Dashboard" that has widgets, reports, etc. that are filtered by "current user" so you can avoid having to build separate dashboards for each engineer.

Then finally a set of reports and whatnot to roll everything up into a portfolio level dashboard.
