Comment Notifications - Who all gets notified?

First time posting, long time fan of SmartSheet. 🥰

We have a group of people that need to get tagged consistently in comments for email notifications, and we want to cut down on having to "tag" in the same conversation/comments section.

My question is: What determines a conversation that "I am following", where I am not tagged, but I still get notifications? Is it because I added a comment that made me a "Follower", or is it that I was tagged that made me a "follower"? Or does tagging me on mistake and then removing my tag keep me as a follower? I'm wondering if tagging once takes care of not having to continue tagging in the same conversation so that everyone can still be notified without typing 10 names every time there is an update. 😅

• You add a comment
  • If you post a comment in a row’s conversation, you automatically start following that thread.
  • This means you’ll get notifications for any new comments in that conversation, even if you’re not tagged again.

• You are tagged in a comment
  • If someone tags you in a comment, you also become a follower.
  • After that, you’ll keep getting notifications for subsequent comments in that thread—even if you’re not tagged again.

• Tagging and then removing the tag
  • If you were tagged once (even by mistake) and then the tag was removed, you still remain a follower because the initial tag triggered the follow status.

If you have a group that needs to stay in the loop:

• Tag them all once in the first comment of the conversation.
• After that, just post updates without tagging—they’ll still get notified.
• If someone new needs to join, tag them once so they start following.
