"% Allocation", "Assigned Resource", "Task Duration" Impact to Task's End date??

I would appreciate some guidance on a common project scheduling practice in Smartsheet.

Typically, resource allocation (% allocation) and assigned resources are defined before building the WBS. Task start and end dates should then be driven by both task duration and the assigned resource’s availability.

For example, if Task A has a 2-day duration and is assigned to Peter, who is only allocated 50% to the project, the task should effectively take 4 days to complete. However, after configuring Assigned Resource, % Allocation, and Duration in Smartsheet, the task still shows a 2-day duration and does not adjust based on allocation.

Is there a way to configure Smartsheet to reflect this behavior, or is this not supported?

Great question! Smartsheet currently does not support dynamic scheduling based on resource allocation (like automatically extending task duration when allocation is less than 100%). The platform’s resource management features are primarily for tracking availability and preventing over-allocation, rather than driving task dates.

Duration in Smartsheet is fixed and does not auto-adjust based on % allocation.

Assigned Resource and % Allocation are used for reporting and workload views, not for recalculating timelines.

Follow up question, is this functionality will be part of the Smartsheet roadmap for future releases? This function seems is very basic functionality which appear in other Project management tool.
