Alert email attachments

In an automations, call it number 15, I generate a PDF in a workflow and it is added to the row as an attached - all good

Then in automation number 16, triggered by an attachment being added, I create an Alert to email to a person and include the attachment.

The email is sent but no link to the attachment is found - why?

If I change automation 16 to be request an upate, then the email is sent, you have to then open the request and finally have a link to the attachment. Although this works a) it is not what I want to do and b) attachments with alerts used to work OK.

Hope someone can help

The link QStock Report or the 10 further down open the smartsheet and the users do not have direct access to the smartsheet. There should be a link to the attachment.

yes you can send an attachment through an alert automation.

It can be triggered by Attachment Added (or changed)

It needs to be Message & selected fields

ONLY select the attachment !!!!! I've found if you select any other fields then the attachment link goes missing but it definitely is available and works as I have had this verified by smartsheet support as I had a problem

That's normal behavior. Smartsheet automations don't include attachments on notifications like that, even though intuitively you think they would based on your settings.

If you need to send attachments like that with just limited information to users without access to the sheet, you'll have to send through another service. Power Automate is my go to since you can easily have it send from an Outlook or Gmail and include a nice, professionally formatted email with the attachments.

If you don't have experience with that, good news is I have a course in production to teach you how. In the meantime, I have a getting started with Smartsheet and Power Automate course in my signature.

What that one doesn't include is how to format and include the attachments, but can get you comfortable with using SS, Power Automate, and Outlook together.

It certainly used to send attachments in the past on alert emails but I guess this is another one of the "secret" changes.

In fact the alerts email is still working sending this out on another smartsheet so a bit confused

How do I fix this if I don't have "Attachments" available under the trigger options?

First choose when rows are added or changed

then you should have the option when an attachment is added or changed.
