Select a Destination Sheet Error

Hi all,

I know this has been asked hundreds of times, but I cannot seem to find an answer on what to do when the Select a Destination window just displays an error message. I have tried everything from restarting my computer and browser, using a different browser and private window, and clearing all cookies. I submitted a ticket to support, but they haven't responded to me, so I am coming to the community.

What can I do to get the search function to work? I have confirmed multiple times that I am an admin on both the sheet I am working on, and the destination sheet. I know the destination sheet is not archived/deleted.

I did create a test sheet and tried to make a move row automation for it, and the search worked. The only difference I can see is that I am the owner of the test sheet, and an admin on this sheet. Would that make a difference?

For Move Row automations in Smartsheet, being an Admin is not always sufficient, even if you’re Admin on both sheets. When the destination sheet is owned by someone else, the Select a Destination search can fail or return an error, even though the sheet technically exists and you have Admin access.

That’s why it worked on your test sheet (where you’re the Owner) and not on the real one.

What reliably fixes it:

Have the owner of the destination sheet create the Move Row automation
or

Temporarily transfer ownership of the destination sheet to you, create the automation, then transfer ownership back

Other things to confirm (but ownership is the big one):

Both sheets are not in view-only workspaces

You are a licensed user

The destination sheet is not governed by stricter workspace permissions
