Conditional formatting for dropdown with multiple options and OR condition

Hi experts, I have a problem with a conditional formatting rule not performing as expected.

I have a dropdown field called "Transit country", and multiple country options can be added from a list (not blurring out the actual options as I'm sure we're all aware of current travel concerns). I've used Contains as it's multiple options, and any of these in the field should trigger the formatting:

Currently the formatting kicks in only if it's the only country in the field - if there is more than one country included, it doesn't trigger.

What am I missing?

Unfortunately not that I have found other than multiple Conditional Formatting rules.

I would just use a helper flag column with an IF/OR formula to flag rows where the multi-select contains one of these countries then base you conditional formatting off of the flag.

I have similar helper flag columns for multiple of these already - I was really hoping the conditional formatting would sort itself out. No simpler solution?

Its a definite flaw in the entire conditional formatting functionality.
I wish there was a toggle to align a formatting rule to apply to either a column, or the entire sheet.
"If this is anywhere on my sheet, do this…" [Not just in a column]

Multiple formatting rules is unfortunately the way to go here.
