Copy Rows Automation "Something Went Wrong" Error

Hi!
I am attempting to redo an automation step that previously worked, but is now malfunctioning. This is a "copy rows to another sheet upon trigger" automation step.
I can set up triggers and get to the prompt to search for the destination sheet I would like to copy rows to, and an error instantly returns with "Something went wrong, and we couldn't process your request."

So far, I've tried clearing my browser cache, using Chrome and Edge and Firefox, using those in incognito modes, and signing in/out to no avail. The Smartsheet support ticket page is a blank white screen for me (and has been for months, or else I would try there next).

Has anyone encountered an error like this or has any other method I could try?

That error usually happens when Smartsheet can’t validate the destination sheet for the automation. In Smartsheet, the “copy rows to another sheet” action will fail at the selection step if the system can’t confirm access or compatibility.

First make sure you are shared to the destination sheet as Admin (or Owner). Editor access often isn’t enough for row-copy automations. If the destination sheet is in a workspace, also confirm your workspace permission isn’t limited to Viewer.

Another common cause is the destination sheet being archived, locked, or recently moved. Try opening the destination sheet directly first, then go back and create the automation again so Smartsheet can refresh the reference.

If the error appears immediately when searching for the sheet—even across browsers—it’s often a temporary backend issue with the sheet reference index. In those cases, simply selecting the sheet again later or recreating the automation step typically resolves it.
