Dear Smartsheet Community,
Over the past year, we've invested significantly in evolving our board view, adding features that match and exceed the capabilities of our legacy card view. In the last few months, we've delivered a density configurator, field management, improved hierarchy, advanced search, conditional formatting, accessibility enhancements, and much more. These updates reflect our commitment to delivering an intuitive, powerful, and intelligent work management experience.
As we continue this evolution, we're taking the next step in our platform roadmap: phasing out card view in favor of board view. We're starting with users on the Free plan at any time on/after June 1, 2026. Until that date, you'll retain full access to card view via the view switcher, giving you time to transition at your own pace.
Why this change? Board view represents a modern, flexible approach to visual work management. It's built on the same next-generation Smartsheet platform as table view and offers superior customization, performance, and collaboration features when compared to card view. By consolidating around board view, we're able to focus our engineering efforts on continuous innovation while simplifying the user experience for everyone.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Will I lose my data when card view is deprecated?
A: Not at all. Your underlying data remains unchanged and fully accessible. Views in Smartsheet are simply different visual representations of the same data. Once card view is deprecated, you can access your information through board view, table view, timeline view, or any other view in your Smartsheet instance.
Q: I use card view regularly. How do I prepare for this change?
A: We recommend exploring board view today. Use the view switcher to switch your sheet to board view and familiarize yourself with the interface, test your workflows, and discover how board view's features can enhance your productivity. You have until June 1 to make this transition at a comfortable pace. Most users find the switch intuitive, and the richer feature set often improves their experience.
Q: If I also have a seat on a paid plan (Pro, Business, or Enterprise), will I lose access to card view?
A: Card view will only be removed from your Free plan. On any paid plans where you hold a seat, card view will remain available for the time being. However, we will be phasing out card view across all plans later this year, and we'll send advance notice well before that change takes effect. You'll have plenty of time to prepare.
Q: Why not keep both card and board views indefinitely?
A: Maintaining multiple views with overlapping functionality requires significant engineering investment and can slow down our ability to innovate. By consolidating around board view, we can deliver new features faster and provide a more cohesive, streamlined experience. Board view has evolved to the point where it now offers superior capabilities to card view, making this consolidation a natural progression.
Q: Where can I learn more about board view?
A: We have comprehensive resources available:
Q: What if I need additional support during the transition?
A: Our support team is here to help. Reach out through your support channel with any questions, and we'll guide you through the transition process.
