Conditional Logic in Forms

Question

I’ve started building a form in Smartsheet using the Smartsheet Form Builder, and the responses are successfully populating my sheet.

The challenge I’m running into is creating conditional logic within the form to narrow down selections. For example, if a user selects a state (such as Florida), I’d like the next question to display only cities and/or counties within Florida. Then, based on that selection (e.g., Tampa), the final question would allow them to choose from a list of registrants specific to Florida/Tampa.

Is this level of conditional logic possible within Smartsheet Form Builder—specifically, can it pull dropdown values from another sheet? Or should I be using a different tool? I have access to Microsoft products, but not tools like JotForm or Zapier.

Here's a sample file for all of the counties. If you upload this to Smartsheet and turn every County column into a dropdown column, it should auto populate with all the data you need. Then just build out your logic in the State dropdown to only show the appropriate county for that state.

When you want to add cities, just create 50 "[State] City" columns like this and make them dropdowns as well. Then you can modify that original logic to the state  so the county and city appear together.

Ah, after playing with this more, these would work better as dropdown columns.
