What can a Guest do?

I looked through the Smartsheet Help Center and found this about Guests:

• Guests: Free external users who may view or contribute

I am wondering if I am able to share a report that I created (a licensed user) with another person in my organization (without a license, added as a Guest) and the Guest can edit information in the report (enter a value in a blank cell, edit the value in a cell if the column is not locked, etc.) and add comments.

I am a licensed user who created the sheet and the report, and the guest is a person in another department who just needs to view and edit some of the cells. An update request would not be a good choice because there might be several changes over time and I don't want to send them a bunch of update requests.

Can I designate someone in my organization as a Guest (I wasn't sure what "external user" meant)… and enable them to only edit not create stuff? I understand I would need to give them editing access to the sheet and the report.

Internal vs external is determined by domain. So someone in your organization with an email that has the same domain would be considered an internal user and falls under different rules. They are either a member or a contributor. Contributors can view, comment, and attach for free. Anything more than that (to include editing cells) will either push them to provisional member or member status.

Only external users (users with a different domain) can be set as Guests.
