Dear Smartsheet Community,
Over the past year, we've invested significantly in evolving table view into our next-generation sheet experience. Table view delivers all the core capabilities of grid view while offering significant improvements in performance, collaboration, and new functionality.
Thank you for your ongoing feedback! We've read every submission, and your input has shaped the evolution of table view for the better. Because of you, our teams have prioritized and delivered performance gains, refined sheet spacing and padding, enhanced formula editing with cell-level capabilities, added a vertical grid line toggle, expanded common file menu operations, expanded accessibility support to WCAG 2.2 AA standards, and so much more.
To make it easy to experience these improvements in your own work, on July 29, 2026, the next grid view sheet you open in a Pro plan will load one time in table view. This affects only that single sheet, only that once. Every other grid view sheet you open afterward continues to open in grid view as usual. Table view has been available on your sheets all along; this simply surfaces it automatically once, so that all users collaborating on assets in Pro plan can experience the improved table view. Users can return to grid view at any moment using the view switcher.
Below are some details to assist you through the change:
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What exactly happens on July 29?
A: The next sheet you open, which you previously viewed in grid view and that was created in a Pro plan, will load in table view one time. After you've seen that one sheet in table view, every other grid view sheet you open will continue to load in grid view as usual. Smartsheet remembers the last view you used to view the sheet data. If you switch from table view to grid view and refresh, it will remember that setting for next time.
Q: Can I switch back to grid view?
A: Yes, immediately, using the view switcher. And because this redirect affects only one sheet, only once, your other grid view sheets are already opening in grid as usual.
Q: Will all my sheets open in table view now?
A: No. Once enabled, only the next eligible grid view sheet you open is affected and only once. This is a one-time redirect, not a new default—your other grid view sheets remain unaffected and continue to open in grid view.
Q: Will this keep happening?
A: While this is a one-time redirect for the time being, we may enforce additional redirects in the future after providing users with ample advance notice.
Q: Why is Smartsheet doing this?
A: Table view is the scalable foundation for the sheet experience, and it's where new capabilities land first—performance at scale, larger sheet support, new integrated AI features, and longstanding community requests like freeze rows and custom colors that aren't feasible in Grid view today. This one-time look is simply an opportunity to experience it firsthand and to share your feedback with our working teams.
Q: How do I share feedback about table view?
A: When switching from table view back to grid, all users are asked to share what is prompting them to switch back to grid view. Please use the in-app modal to share your feedback! Our teams read every piece of submitted feedback and often follow up with users to learn more and discuss their experience in more detail. This enables you to partner with Smartsheet to resolve specific concerns or blockers that prevent you from working exclusively and successfully in table view.
Q: Will I lose any sheet data when the sheet is redirected to table view?
A: No. Not at all. Views in Smartsheet are simply different visual representations of the same underlying data. Your information remains safe and unchanged, and is accessible through table view, grid view, board view, timeline view, or any other view.
Q: Why not keep both grid and table views indefinitely?
A: Table is the new scalable grid that can support new features and large sheets. With table view, we can now ship new features faster—specifically, performance improvements at scale, new integrated AI features, and many community-requested enhancements that would not be possible in grid view.
Q: Where can I learn more about table view?
A: We have comprehensive resources available:
Q: What if I need additional support during the transition?
A: Our support team is here to help. Reach out through your support channel with any questions, and we'll guide you through the transition process.
Best regards,
Smartsheet Product Team
