Discussion feature vs. Comments Column

Many templates have a Comments column. Why use a Comments column vs. the built in Discucsion feature?  Somewhat related, is there a way of making the last bit of dicussions viewable llike in a column vs. having to click on the little icon?

THanks,
Rob.

I use the comments colum to mark a certian row complete or with a check mark. I do like the feature that you can have a sheet discussion, which is the blue button at the bottom of the page, but also discussions within a certian row.

  • I use both, i.e. I use Comments to provide a high-level status of my deliverables and my milestones. Discussions can be about this status, e.g. any impediments, issues, risks toward completing these deliverables and milestones.

I would very much like to see the most recent comment in a discussion on the sheet. That would be great. Perhaps a separate column type called "discussion" and you could choose how many entries are displayed in the cell.

@jamison -- that is a great idea, i hope you put it forward as a feature request. The Discussions seem very hidden to me (although I am new and we have not used them much yet).
