Affect multiple columns with one conditional formatting rule?
Comments

What's the status of this? It's pretty basic to Excel and should be here too. Creating a new set of conditions for each column that are the same as other columns is tedious. I should be able to set multiple columns to apply any condition too.

It still doesn't look like there's been any update for this. If I have 30 columns and I only need 28 cells in a row to be highlighted, it seems illogical to have to add 28 individual rules. There needs to be some sort of "except for column xyz" rule. -
I agree I waste a lot of time cloning rules when in Excel I can format a group of columns at once. Please add this function.

+vote from me. Thank you
An update would be nice too...

Yes please - I vote for this one!
I am upto to more than 100 rules for one sheet! This would be awesome! Pretty please!

We would love this feature too! It's taken hours to create all the rules in our sheet. If we had used Excel it would have taken seconds.

A vote for this from your friends at Puppet

I must be missing something because I found cloning to be a pointless activity. I still have to practically redefine everything.
What's the status on the functionality requested here?

Hello,
You can now select multiple columns when creating a conditional formatting rule, details on this are available in the help center: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/516359-conditional-formatting
When creating your rule, click "entire row" and select your desired columns.

Hello,
I was also searching for a answer to this question with no results so I started playing around with Excel. I am using Excel 2016 and came up with a solution.
I have a spreadsheet with several columns that have basicly the same data but from different sources and I would like to format them but not others.
here's what I did. I high lighted columns C and D down to row 25. then went to conditional formating, selected my conditions for these columns and formated.
The applies to part looked like this, =$C$14:$D$23 after playing around a bit I found that by adding columns the conditional format worked for them all. I haven't finished yet but this is what I have so far and it works, =$C$14:$D$23,$F$14:$G$23,$J$14:$K$23
hope this helps.

Hi Shane,
The capability desired is:
Multiple columns with the same pull down list of text (say txt1-txt10). Then we want to put a conditional statement on ANY column with txt3 and have that cell turn green on all columns that have this text selected or ideally on all columns selected in the conditional statement.
So looking for a logical OR function of columns tested against the same rule.
Not possible correct?

+1 to add this as a feature.
