Is there any work around to make today line darker or more clear when gantt charts are printed?

There currently isn't a way to adjust the format of the current date line in the gantt chart (for printing or otherwise).
When you have a moment, let our Product team know that you'd like to see this feature added to Smartsheet by submitting a product enhancement request (using the form under Quick links on the right of the community site).

Maybe even define color or if it could have a period (current week, month, etc. ) highlighted.
I noticed this thread started in 2018, have any updates been made to accommodate the request?
this should be a basic function for any gantt chart
