Critical path disappeared

I was updating a project gantt chart and at some point the critical path red outline disappeared (no I didn't turn it off, I checked!)

What is required that this is visible? I had to break some task dependencies to get the bars to actually show real-world dates, could that be it?

Critical path is calculated based on dependencies starting from the task with no predecessors, at least one dependency, and the latest end date.

If you've broken dependencies from your task with the latest end date, then you may have stopped your critical path. More info on critical path is available here: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/1979152-tracking-a-project-s-critical-path
