Individual Kanban

Hello,

I am currently evaluating Smartsheet with a free trial.  I'm wondering if there is a way for each individual to have their own Kanban.  I'd like them to have their own formatted in whichever way they like.  Some may like "Today" "Tomorrow" "Near Future" columns.  While others may like "Important/Urgent" Important/Not Urgent" "Not Important/Urgent" "Not Important/Not Urgent"

I'd like to have control over the Gantt chart that everyone can see.  But allow them to have their own way of prioritizing their tasks.  Is this possible?

In the card view each user can choose their own view by to view the columns by different dropdown fields

So one person could choose to view status another could view by person etc

ricki is correct, but you have to instruct each user how to do it and ensure that you have set-up dropdowns correctly.

  • Am I understanding that you can customize those views or create new ones?  All I see is Status, Priority and Assigned To

Those views are based on the columns in your sheet. If you add a new column which is a dropdown you will see that column as an option there as well

  • Outstanding, thanks!

Is there a way to format the color of the lane itself?  Ie. Instead of the grey background have a red background.

You could create a highlighting rule but it will only affect the color of the leftmost edge of the card and not the color of the whole card

At the bottom on the left you should see a section format with a  colorful grid

You could then create a conditional formatting rule which will set the color

Put in your condition and then under this format set a color under task bar - that's the color you see in card view

  • Thanks.  Is there a way to hide a task from card view?

You can create whatever filters you want and when you view by the filter tasks can be hidden

In addition, each option of the dropdown gets its own lane as well as a "Uncategorized" lane for anything where that column is blank. You can view it with any column minimized. You wouldn't see the items in the column unless you expanded the column

  • OK so if I'm understanding correctly, I could add a lane called "Hide," drag things that I did not want to see into Hide and then minimize that column?

How would you recommend I do this:  I have a 1st level row consisting of "Project X."  This project has 3 second level rows called "Phase 1,""Phase 2" and "Phase 3."  I do not want these to be shown in Card View.

Within Phase 1, for example, I have "Return printer." I want this to be shown in the Card view, but not Gantt view.  In order to return the printer I have to 1)Wrap the printer 2)box the printer 3)Get an RMA, 4)Give to shipping department.

I wan't those to be shown in card view, but not as individual cards, and I do not want them to complicate things by being in gantt view.  I only want to see them as subtasks in the Return Printer Card.  Adding them as subtasks in gantt view turns "Return printer" from a colored box to a grey box, whos color will not change according to priority.
