Is anyone actually using Card view for Scrum/Kanban?
Hi everyone,
We have used smartsheet to implement waterfall style projects before and are using card view in a very limited sense. We are establishing a user group for managing our Enterprise Resource Planning system and we are investigating using Scrum to manage our processes. However, it seems to me that the lack of horizontal lanes makes it very difficult to manage parallel stories (and their associated tasks and subtasks) in the same sprint period.
What are people doing in real life to overcome this lack of functionality?
We are already tied to smartsheet so I would like to make it work for this but I'm having a hard time envisioning a setup that won't take a lot of manual work to create visibility across multiple stories. I'm actually thinking that starting with a manual board and then later investing in a agile specific software may be the better option. I've looked at the available templates and they all seem to suffer from this shortcoming.
Does anyone have advice for a agile/scrum beginner?
Edit: I have been doing some research and it seems like inputting stories/subtasks/tasks in the grid view and reserving the top hierarchy for the story while working in card view with a level 2 view filter might get closer to giving me the view I want, it's still very messy visually though

I'd be interested in hearing people's stories too. There are some limitations to card view that make it kind of difficult to implement. Lack of card view in reports is a major issue for us.

I use Card View on a daily basis for maintenance items in our business. Card View is extremely limited. It is not good for Kanban/scrum view yet, it needs a lot of improvements.
For right now card view is best for visualizing data at a glance. I personally like to use it for equipment maintenance status and I use the sub-tasks for live updates.

It's interesting that card view is advertised as a kanban/scrum tool when the functionality isn't actually there... are there good, light alternatives?

We are equally interested to know if anyone has a solution for Reports to Kanban, whether that's Asana, Trello, or some other platform.
We're involved with front end development and have at least 40 sheets rolling into a single report. The data is consolidated, however, it's not dynamic enough to be utilized by a team that manages both instantaneous and long term projects. Having a global view, working status, and level of priority is a must for us.
Looking for a solution until Smartsheet can incorporate Cards into Reports.

Members of my team were using Clickup for a while. We also are awaiting the ability to add card view in reports. Because of the disconnect between smartsheet and clickup we ended up creating a separate sheet in Smartsheets for the Card View to manage more of the minutae for our courses, then we created individual cards for each project and created a massive checklist for each project. We did some cell linking for key milestone dates from our main sheet and then set the start and finish dates to adjust based on the lane it's in. Creating a new card for a project requires switching to grid view, and copying the current set of rows for a project, but the Kanban look and feel is more appreciated.

Hello, I also find the card view only half-baked at the moment. The limitations/annoyances are many when using it as kanban board in a project context:
-displaying/managing subtasks/hierarchy
-inability to change end dates directly from task edit screen (why are they calculated only in card view !!?)
-dual maintenance of using task status for card view and % complete in gantt
-etc..
I so wish Smartsheet improves it so that it is at least on par with MS Planner, let alone one of the many dedicated and much better kanban tools out there...

Hi @Jonathan K @CypressJon @HealthyLifeSupport @kefir
I hope you're well and safe!
Woohoo! It's finally here! Card View in Reports!
Card view is now available in reports! Combine your project sheets into one report, then view in card view to quickly answer questions like:
- Which tasks are high priority?
- How many issues are in the Implementation stage?
- Which designer has the most requests?
Align the whole team on priority by dragging cards within a lane to save card ranking – without affecting the order of the underlying data in grid view. Learn more.
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!
Best,
