Is there a way to send alerts to people based on the value of a field. For example if a field has the values of Sales, Support, Service etc then alerts are sent to different people based on these values.

The functionality is not inherent within Smartsheet at this time, however, there are a couple of work arounds at the link below.

Also, this has been requested and is on the roadmap to be included. I havne't heard an ETA . Seet his link for the Roadmap. Conditional Notificaitons is what you are wanting.
