Sounds like you're interested in automating your sheet with Alerts and Actions. Here's a quick link that should get you started.
-
I don't believe this is possible through a normal alert or action. Please submit a product enhancement request as this is a great idea.

Hi,
Reminders might work, but it depends on your use case.
Reminders don't have a link as alerts, but it has a login picture.
Would that work?
Have a fantastic week!

Hi all,
I have made some try and if the sheet is not shared with the contact you send the notification, he don't have the permission to see the sheet. It's right for me :-)

Glad to hear you got it working!

Ah, so the trick is to not share the original sheet with the user you are notifying. Good to note. Thanks!
-
No, that's the confusion a lot of people have. Share the sheet/workspace only with those people that need to see the entire area.
Alerts and actions are great for people that don't need to see the bigger picture. You can even fine tune it down to sharing or requesting an update on just a single cell.
Its perfect for gaining information from outside the organization like clients, attendees or field workers.

So I have the same requirement, but I need to use Alerts and Actions to determine when to send the notification, and who to send it to, so I can't use reminders for that.
Also - it does not help to not share the sheet with the user receiving the notification, because they still get to see the link, and then click on it, get an "access denied" message, and then click to "request access"... this is all a waste of time and very confusing for the end user.
All I want to do is send them a notification that an item they submitted using a form, has been "approved" (using a status column)... I don't want them to even know that there is a sheet.
So I guess it is not possible at this time to exclude the link to the sheet, correct?
If so, then I will go ahead and submit an enhancement request.
Thanks.

If someone is shared to a sheet, can I send them an alert without sending the link to the underlying sheet?
-
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible in Alerts but maybe with reminders. Could that work?
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
Have a fantastic day!

Hello - was this feature ever added to allow a notification without the link to the sheet?
-
Hi Allison,
Unfortunately, it's still not possible at the moment, but it's an excellent idea!

The third-party service, Zapier, is an excellent option for this scenario. Is that an option for you?
I hope that helps!
Have a fantastic weekend!

Hi Andree,
I am confused how setting up an Alert vs. an Automated Reminder would be different. I tested is and it appears that reminders contain the link to the underlying sheet as well. Am I missing something? It really is difficult for this process we have. We are sending information in the sheet to external partners who cannot have access to the sheet. So it is quite confusing for them to have a link to big and right there at the top of the email they receive from us and if they click on it, it brings them to something they cannot even access.

Hi @Kate Hasse
No, you're not missing anything. Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment, but it's an excellent idea!

As a possible workaround, you could use the third-party service, Zapier, to send the information instead.
Is that an option for you?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

Hi all!
(@Gilles16, @David Bright, @stephanie.blake67241, @allison.vess47261, @Kate Hasse)
We recently released an update where you can now choose to only send the message from your automated alert without providing a link to the source sheet in the email. Our Release Notes page has more information, see here!
Keep in mind that if you want to send a message without a sheet link, but you also want some of the row content included in that message, you can add this dynamic data into your message by using specific formatting in your text (see our Help Center article on this, here.)
Cheers!
Genevieve
