BTW.. my workaround right now is to use something like is.gd to create a link.

That link can then be placed in a column and used in lookups.

For example I have a supplier file and in my support request sheet it lookups from my assigned vendor and pulls this field over. I can then click on it and email the supplier from the supplier file.

I am trying to get a link to send an email with a subject line and body text. Here is what I have. I've tried using bit.ly and the other one mentioned in this thread but neither are working.

Bit.ly says the bitly domain is invalid and the other one takes me to convergint.com when selected.

I know this is an old post, but I ran across this issue today thinking that this would be included in Smartsheet already. I thought I'd share my 'workaround' hoping it might be helpful for someone out there.

My 'workaround' is to create a new webpage that captures an email address through the url, converts it to a proper mailto link, then uses javascript to navigate to the link, effectively triggering a mailto.

To use the feature in Smartsheet I was able to add a url (ie: exampledomain.com/?email=<email address>) inside Smartsheet and just appended the email address. It works perfectly, although not the most elegant solution. The only issue I have now is that I can't alter the visible text to something more human legible, especially if I'm using a column formula.

Any update on this feature request? I have contacts listed on my dashboard and need to be able to link their actual email addresses. It only makes sense...

If this is how Smartsheet responds to users I'll definitely be looking to a new tool.

I can't access is.gd so will try another solution.

I know the more people that submit Enhancement Requests, the more visibility there is into the issue and possible future solution.

Mailto links are now supported in Rich text widgets on dashboards. Please see this product announcement for more details.

Late to the party here - but if you do a Rich Text Widget and just put the email address in there it works.
