Is it possible to filter a column by color? We use visual management extensively for some of our larger enterprise projects and filtering by color is helpful. I didn't see a way, not sure if there was a "trick".
Have you considered using conditional formatting to create the color of your rows? You could have a column that you type the color name into to colorize it. If that was the case, you could filter on the color name and see only that color's rows. Conditional formatting could apply the color of the row based on the color name in the color field. You could even make that field a dropdown.
Just a few thoughts.
If you are using RYG(B or G) as your colors, you could still use Mike's suggestion of an additional column. You could then use a basic
=[Status Column Name]@row
to pull the text for that color into the new column and filter on that.
Instead of going through those extra steps, can't SmartSheet just develop a way to perform basic steps that Excel does such as sorting by color?
Filtering by color is now available.
I still can't see the option to filter by color. Is it in the beta testing or available to everyone?
Hi Marina,
@Marina Masterova
It will only work with the Symbols column and the Status Color options.
Did that work?
I hope that helps!
Have a fantastic week!

Hi Andree,
It's not clear how to highlight a row with a status color vs. one of the 40 available other colors. Sometimes it is necessary to highlight certain rows with a unique color to identify particular needs. Creating an additional column to create a new parameter to filter by in a spreadsheet with hundreds of columns is not a very helpful solution. Having the option to filter columns by text and cell highlight color would be much easier and cleaner.
Hi @Morgan Vlad-McCabe
Yes, that would be a great addition to Smartsheet features.

This is not true
@Daniela Villamizar I just checked again, and it is still there...
Hi, I'm trying to filter at the column level (schedule status) to display only rows with red status. I'm using the same filter as demonstrated in Paul's example and it is not working. When I filter for rows yellow or green they display, but not the red. Any thoughts?
@Julie Neumann Have you made sure to scroll all the way up and that there are in fact Reds on the sheet?
@Paul Newcome yep, there are reds on the sheet. There is no way to scroll, it cuts off the rest of the sheet.
@Julie Neumann What happens if you pull a report based on the same exact criteria?
@Paul Newcome I tried that too and no luck.
I have my Smartsheet set to generate a document when a form is filled out. The document is a fillable PDF and when the document generates not all of the answers populate on the generated PDF. I have tried making the PDF again from scratch, I have tried copying and pasting the fields so I know they're the exact same…
I need to be able to pull data manually from the source sheet into a report to send to another person for approval. I do not want to give the person approving access to view other sensitive information on the source sheet. Is this possible?
hello, How can I set our account to reflect real time and dates. for example, when viewing the cell history, It usually shows the day before. The correct time stamp for this edit should be 9/3/25 5:50pm. Any way to change this to our correct time zone? We are in Guam.
