Copy/clone a column WITHIN a sheet
Hi,
I see lots of information sating you can't copy a column from one sheet to another. I want to make duplicates of a column WITHIN the same sheet. Is this possible?
The reason is that I have a long dropdown list and some cell (not row) conditional formatting in a column which will be the same for all 7 columns and this would save me having to create 7 times.
I may be approaching the whole thing poorly so all advice is welcome
Thanks
Rob

I would love this feature too.
Even duplicating the drop box list would be a time saver.

Just add a new column and copy and paste the cell data and predetermined column values to the new row. You can also duplicate conditional formatting rules, just change the column they are looking to.

+1 vote to copying a column - and being able to use the format painter from column to column.

Hi Brad-- I've added your votes for these features!

Hey,
I was looking to do a similar task, and I ended up creating a new column and entering
=([Original_Column]1)
into the first cell, extend the formula all the way down the sheet and you should end up with a duplicated column, which will also automatically update as you add new rows.
Hope this helps,
Carl

Carl,
I believe you have missed the point of the request.
An example of what we are looking for:
I have a column named "Date 1" and it is Date type column.I make it blue background.
I want to create 6 more columns that are Date columns with a blue background, in effect "cloning" the column.
I do this now with the API - from a command line I enter sheet ID, column ID, and how many instances I want. It would be nice if the tool would do this for us.

I have had a request from a team member, would also like to duplicate - the Comments column - so that different members of the process only need to see comments about their process.

Please add my vote for this duplicating/cloning column feature too!

A want the feature too

Vote "Yes" for this feature -I ran into this issue today creating a training matrix. All of my columns use the same drop down list. There was not easy way to copy the column properties and I had to repeat this task 50+ times.

please add my vote as well, i am trying add data for a menu and i need QTY columns for every item. Had to do this one by one recreating each column.

Mine too!

+1 for this feature from my side. It is awful to create the same columns again and again ONLY because there is no copy function.

Another request for this! I ended up using Dave D's suggestion above which made it a bit easier but still tedious with so many columns...
