Using Smartsheet report to populate website data

We are developing a new website for our company and want to incoporate some sort of link between some of the data we have on SS and displaying it on the website.

Is there a way to do this? What is the best platform/back-end of a website to talk to Smartsheet?

I've had a look around the SS website and cant really find anything that explains this process. (I am also a website newbie, which probably doesnt help a great deal...)

Hi Luisa,

It depends on exactly what you want to accomplish and the technologies and products that you use for your website. However, in general you could always have a programmer use the Smartsheet API to access data in a sheet or report and use then display that data on a web page. That's obviously glossing over a lot of the detail here, but if you have more questions please respond and I'll see if I can help. Hopefully, someone else here has experience that they can add to this too.

As Scott mentioned, it really depends on your goals.

In the simplest form (no pun intended), you can Publish a sheet or report.

That will give you the code to embed into the HTML on your site.

Published objects can be read-only or editable.

You can also generate the URL for the object and get to it that way.

In this case, there is no "back-end" -- Smartsheet is the back-end.

If you are trying to do portions on the data (some columns, some rows) you probably want to go the Report route.

Yes, we want to select some of the columns and some of the rows as well as the attached pdf report.

We have a little ways to go, but I like the ideas of using a report to display the information. I think we will want it to be interactive and let you download the attached file or link to another page on our website. So some more investigating on our end (perhaps with a developer, either SS or external)
