Conditional Drop-down list columns

Hey

Is it possible to have the the drop-down list of a column changed based on the value of another column?

Eg. If column A's value is set to "Work stage 2" column B's drop-down list will have a specific list, but when it is set to "Work stage 2" column B's drop-down list changes automatically to a different list.

Say Column A has a drop-down list of:

Work stage 1

Work stage 2

Work stage 3

Work stage 4

Column B has a drop-down list based on the value selected in Column A.

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment, but it's a great idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

A possible workaround could be to use conditional formatting to highlight different columns with different options depending on the answer and then collect the response from the correct columns to a master field or similar.

Would that work?

Other options could be to use a form and a form service instead or another third-party service.

Would that be an option?

What do you think about using your cell linking setup for a dynamic dropdown, but instead of set values using further cell linking and nested IFs or INDEX/MATCH to change the value in the "dropdown" sheet?

Does that make sense?

Yes, that could probably work, but the issue is that it only works on desktop and not mobile.

I wonder too... Your suggestion of multiple dropdown columns. An IF statement that says something along the lines of

=IF(ColumnA@row = 1, "Select Here", "")

Next dropdown column would be

=IF(ColumnA@row = 2, "Select Here", "")

So on and so forth.

Then whatever you select in the first column will populate the correct dropdown column with "Select Here".

Paired up with some basic conditional formatting it would look something similar to the attached image.

I know that once a secondary dropdown is selected it will override/delete the IF formula, but not until a selection is made. Once that selection is made, it will still be clear which column to select from as the conditional formatting would still be in place, and it would be the only secondary dropdown column in the row that has anything in it.

I was wondering if this function was added since May? I have heard that you are putting in place new developments and they will be released soon. Would you please, tell me if dependent drop-down lists will be included in the next release? And if not, then what is your prognosis of when it could happen?

It hasn't been released yet. My guess is that Smartsheet will publicly unveil it at this years Engage conference in about two months at the latest.

You'd have to ask Smartsheet about that. I think and guess that it's coming, but it's not an easy thing to implement because of how advanced it is and how everything should work together.

As a work around in the interim I believe you can do this sort of thing on a google form and then use an integration between google sheets and SmartSheet to bring the information across.

Hi Andree,

Your help would be highly appreciated. Would you know if the feature dependent dropdown list has been released yet? In other words, I want to create two columns where depending on the dropdown list of column A only certain lists/selections appear in column B. Basically a filtered dropdown column which is dependant on the previous one.
