Apply date formats to a column
Hello Community,
Teams that span multiple regions often encounter issues with date formatting. For example, while 05/03 is May 3rd in the US, it might stand for March 5th in other locales. As one of our top requested features, additional date formats for date columns is critical for the many teams that work with stakeholders across multiple locations, and it is now available to use.
You will now be able to:
- Adjust dates to your desired format at the cell or column level
- Update date formatting in grid view and Gantt view
- Display dates with the new formatting on reports and dashboards
To learn more about this release, see our help article. Then select the date format that works best for you!

The help article every plan but Teams that has access to this feature. I am assuming that is an oversight.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for pointing this out. Date formats are available to all Smartsheet plans, and we are updating the help article.
Best,
Kara -
Hi Bill,
Good catch—sorry about that! I've edited the article to say "All Smartsheet Accounts." You should be able to apply date formats on a Team account.
Due to caching, there may be a delay for you to see the wording change in the help article.

This is welcomed Shaine - Any updates on native time functions though?!

I see that the regional function was updated, but what about an option to use a standard shorthand version of a date in the US, M/DD?
-
No updates on that one, Sean.
Please fill out a product enhancement request (even if you have already) so our Product team gets a sense of the demand. You can submit your enhancement request using the form under Quick links on the right of the community site.

Apply a date format to a column is great. But when sending a message (inform someone or update request) using the date field, no format anymore is applied. The column setup is for example showing "Thursday Nov 13th" and the message (setup with {{date}} ) is showing 13/11/2020.
Any idea to keep the same format as the column ones ?

I have to change dates each quarter when I create a new project plan quarter to quarter. Its not exact but these work a little for me:
=[start date]@row+90
=[finish date]@row+90
Add date column, add formula, then copy paste special in original date column, and delete the new one.
You may have to increase the day by one or two days to get it to sync up (90, 91, 92, etc.)

What about formating "Created Date" and "Modified Date" columns? As of today, when I apply a format to the column, the information does not change and remain (what I think is) the regional default
