Cell Contents deleted during edits
Hello
Has anyone seen an issue where the contents of a cell are just wiped clean as you navigate from one cell to another by using the arrow keys or hitting enter? This appears to be a random effect and not browser based and appears to have started only recently. Did not do this before.
Thanks

Hi Jian,
That's strange!
Fortunately, that hasn't ever happened to my clients or me.
Have you tried another browser to see if it's happening everywhere?
If you haven’t already, I would recommend that you reach out to the Smartsheet Support Team. Smartsheet Support Team
Hope that helps!
Have a fantastic day!

The only time I have experienced something this is after downloading the new Formula Examples template from the Solution Center. It doesn't happen every time I enter a cell, and it doesn't wipe the cell clean. The cell still contains the data, but for whatever reason it shows as blank even if there was previously data there.
Is it happening on all of your sheets, or just the one?
I also recommend reaching out to support.

I do have resolution on this. The root cause was the Win10 power management system somehow had set Inactive Sleep Timer to 2 minutes. So I was using Caffeine to keep it awake. Caffeine enters a space or enter stroke as a means to keep the system alive so if I just happened to be in a cell at the same time as Caffeine doing its thing the content disappeared. This also explains the randomness of the issue. So by deactivation the app its back to normal. For the windows fix we had to go into Regedit and activate the hidden menus which allows you to see the hidden values set by default which had somehow changed during a forced update. By changing 2 minutes to 9999 my machine does not go in into sleep mode every 2 minutes forcing a power button reactivation and bitlocker entry which was becoming painful

Oh wow!
Glad you found the reason!

This just happened to me as well after I had downloaded an example template from the solution Center. Since then, every time I move the cursor over cells with content, using the arrow keys, it erases the content of those cells. It suddenly happens in all my sheets and makes the entire Smartsheet software unusable.
Any idea how this can be fixed?

Hi,
Have you tried logging out and in again? Does it only happen in Smartsheet?
Hope that helps!
Have a fantastic weekend!

Did you check Jian's solution provided below in regards to the sleep/caffeine cycle?

After rebooting my computer it all worked fine again

Excellent!
Glad it works again!

I'm running into this as well now. When I looked at Cell History, you can see where the data was deleted. I blacked out the name there, but it denotes the name of the sheet I'm working on, it's not a user. Currently no other users have access to this sheet, and I wasn't doing anything when it happened. I happened to look up and see the blue outline around the cell (denoting something in the background changed the cell contents). Very odd... No automations on that one either.

The fix Jian left about caffeine fixed my issue. Thank you for following up with the solution Jian! 5 years later and this article is still helping people.
