Numbers and Dates in the same column

Is there a way to have numbers and dates in the same column? When entering a number less than 100 in a Date column I get a date. When entering a date in a number column I get an error. Is there any way around either of these? I need the numbers and dates in the same column for formatting reasons.

You could add punctuation before and then it would work.
