Uploading a photo for the community

This is a very silly question.  However, I have tried to upload a my photo to my profile.  But, nothing happens and no photo is displayed.  I know it warns that it needs to be smaller than 1024x1024 pixels and I have made it smaller than that.  What is the trick to this?  I thought about sharing a formaula technigue that I developed with the community.
