Force Comment Entry

what code could I use, in a cell or range of cells, that would "force" a user to input a comment in a certain cell based on their selection in another cell?

I have attached an example from my sheet - I would like, if a user chooses a "3" in column "sub rating", they are forced to enter a comment in the "comments" cell.

Hi,

There isn't a way to force them to fill in a cell, but here are a few suggestions for workarounds.

Conditional formatting to indicate that something needs to be filled in.
A formula in the cell that would show a message that they need to fill in the cell.
If they don't fill in the cell, we could send an alert or an update request to remind them.

Would any of those methods work/help?

Try something like this.

=IF([Sub Rating]@row = 3; "Please fill in the cell with reasoning for the rating")

The same version but with the below changes for your and others convenience.

=IF([Sub Rating]@row = 3, "Please fill in the cell with reasoning for the rating")

Depending on your country you’ll need to exchange the comma to a period and the semi-colon to a comma.
