Timechart in smartsheet or smartsheet labs

In smartsheet labs, I build a pie, bar and other charts based on my smartsheets data and it's really great feature. Unfortunately, i cannot find a capability to build a timechart, that is with time X axis and value Y axis. Tme X axis should take the time from the creation time of the record in smartsheet, and it would be great to be able to set start/end date or "forever" time constraint for the timechart and also the following granularity options: 1 day, 1 week, 1 month. And for the Y axis i should be able to pick any column on my smartheet with options COUNT, SUM, AVERAGE just like implemented now,

My biz case is that i need to track workload of my different employees over different periods of time with different granularity, based on the tasks that are stored as a records in smartsheet and each record has the Employee field and i need to show multiple Employees lines on the chart over a time.

Does anybody know maybe this is already implemented and i just missed it?

  • Hello—Glad to see you're enjoying the Charts Labs app! There currently isn't a timechart of sorts with this functionality in the Labs app, and it appears that the current apps won't facilitate what you're looking for either.

When testing this out using a System column and Text/Number column in my sheet, it appears each X axis is treated as its own separate data point as opposed to a contiguous line. It looks more like a scatter chart than a timeline.

The callout here is that at this time, charts typically treat separate rows as their own data point when visualizing data, and there isn't a way to connect these on a single line in the chart.

I'll pass your feedback for a time chart to our Labs team for further consideration. Keep in mind that Labs apps are experimental, and subject to change or discontinuation without notice.

  • Thank you very much for your following up! Will really appreciate if you implement the timechart capability.
