Assign a value to text

Hi,

I'm a newbie. I have an evaluation form where responses are Average, Very Good and Superior. I'd like to have another field in the smartsheet populate upon response with a numeric value. 5 for Average, 10 for Very Good, and 20 for Superior

Is it possible to do this using formulas or is there a way to assign a numeric value to text responses?

Hi Carolyn,

Try something like this.

Change the Result name to your column name.

=IF(Result@row = "Average"; 5; IF(Result@row = "Very Good"; 10; IF(Result@row = "Superior"; 20)))

The same version but with the below changes for your and others convenience.

=IF(Result@row = "Average", 5, IF(Result@row = "Very Good", 10, IF(Result@row = "Superior", 20)))

Depending on your country you’ll need to exchange the comma to a period and the semi-colon to a comma.

If you only have those three options, we can simplify it like this.

If it's not Average or Very Good, it's Superior.

=IF(Result@row = "Average"; 5; IF(Result@row = "Very Good"; 10; 20))
