How do I add "last updated" to a dashboard?
I have a dashboard widget linking to a group of different smartsheets. I would like to add the last updated date (and name would be great too) so that the viewer will know if updates have been made without clicking into the sheet. What is the best way to do this?

Can you provide a screenshot so we can see what you're doing? I have some ideas on how that can be done.

I have a few ideas as well, but as @Mike Wilday said... Screenshots would definitely help.

Hi Suzanne,
I'm the third person with ideas and asking for screenshots! 😉
Basically something like, collect the latest date and with name from each sheet on a so called Master Metric Sheet and show it in the Dashboard.
We could also use the Sheet Summary and Sheet Summary Reports.
I hope that helps!
Have a fantastic day!

@Andrée Starå That's pretty much the same thought process I was having.

Haha! Thanks so much to all! Ok I have a grid. And I have a series of reports running off the grid that different people will access for the purpose of updating the primary grid. I want management to have a quick glance to know who hasn't updated yet this week. Yes they can open the grid and check the modified col, but really I want them to know which sections were updated. The widget should be the links to the reports and then somewhere I would like to include "last updated (max date of the modified by column for the rows in question). As far as if that is done in a table, or if I separate the reports into different widgets and put into the widget heading.. either would be okay to start.

What I would suggest (and it seems to be the consensus) would be to create a new sheet. On this new sheet you would have 3 columns.
Sheet Name................Last Updated.................Updated by
Sheet A.................................f1a....................................f1b
Sheet B.................................f2a....................................f2b
On each of the individual sheets, you would include both of the system generated columns for updated (date and person).
f1a would look something like this...
=MAX({Sheet A Last Updated Date Column})
f1b:
=INDEX({Sheet A Updated by Column}, MATCH([Last Updated]@row, {Sheet A Last Updated Date Column}, 0))
Then you would replicate these formulas for Sheet B, Sheet C, so on and so forth.
Once you have built out your table, you could then reference this using a Metrics Widget on your dashboard.

Thank you! I'll put this together today. It sounds like it should work.

Hi all, wanted to let you know that I used this thread and Paul's suggestion and it worked beautifully! I am using it to show the last modified date on a dashboard that we call our project plan. Thank you for the suggestion!
