Count of Dates

I am trying to do a count for everything that has a date prior to 11/01/19.

=COUNTIFS([Date Referred to CRU]:[Date Referred to CRU], "<""11/01/19") but i keep getting an unparesable message

Try this instead...

=COUNTIFS([Date Referred to CRU]:[Date Referred to CRU], < DATE(2019, 11, 01))
