I have a completed column with a check box. When that box is checked, I would like the Date Completed box to auto populate with Todays date. Is that possible?

I tried =IF(Complete1 = 1,TODAY(),"")) but that does not work... ugh

Never mind... I got it... YAY!!!

I had spaces in my formulat that needed removed!!

Hi Tammy,

Glad you got it working, but be aware that the TODAY function will update the date to the current (Todays) date for each day so it will not be locked.

There are a few workarounds to lock the date.

Is that what you wanted to happen?

Andree, yes - I would like the date to REMAIN the date that it was completed. Please share with me how I update to lock the date to date completed.

The formulas I put in yesterday using TODAY(), did NOT change to todays date today?? So I am not sure what locking is. Will it change at a certain time today? So far, the ones that were completed yesterday still have yesterday's date.

Did the date update later in the day? It probably has something to do with the time zone.

Let me know how it goes and if you want more info on how to store the date so it's locked.

I've answered in your other post as well.

We would use the copy row workflow to lock to store the date in the other sheet, and then we’d use cross-sheet formulas and a combination of INDEX/MATCH to collect the date back to the main sheet.

I, too, am needing a formula so that the date a project is checked as complete will auto-populate that date and not change.

This is the formula I have, but it continually updates the date to today, and not the date the checkmark was added. Ugh.

=IF([Approved?]14 = 1, TODAY())

Is there any solution that doesn't require a paid add-on?
