How do I edit a Google Doc from the Smartsheet Dashboard again?

I have a Google Doc embedded in a Smartsheet Dashboard that I used to be able to edit right from the dashboard. In the last couple of months, I have not been able to update the Google Doc from the Dashboard, which is a problem when I am in a meeting and want to add notes while doing a presentation about the dashboard.

Has some functionality changed that I need to update? I really would like to have that feature back.

Hi Heidi,

I've just tested this, and when I added the Google Doc as a link in a Web Content Widget I was able to type in it and make notes as expected. I tested this while looking at the dashboard in Smartsheet and also as a Published link, using Chrome.

You would want to make sure that your dashboard is not in "Edit" mode; I would also suggest trying different browsers in case this helps, and deleting/adding the widget again.

If this is not working for you, I would suggest reaching out to Smartsheet Support, providing them with a short video clip/screen recording of your issue.

I did all the changes you suggested in Chrome and it still wasn't working. I switched over to Firefox and am now able to live edit the Google Doc. Thank you again for your suggestions.

Hi Heidi,

I'm glad you got it working again!

However that is strange; if you would prefer to use Chrome then this issue may be related to your Chrome extensions. Our Troubleshooting Help Center article has more information if you want to test this.

Funny thing....

I started editing in Firefox and the live update started working in Chrome. When I went back over to Chrome, I was able to edit there again as well. Strange.....

I will definitely review the Chrome extensions information in the troubleshooting area so I can help someone else who might be having trouble. I need to make sure they are still not able to edit first.

Try opening a Chrome Incognito instance and see if that works.

I suspect that there is a Chrome add-on or something that is interfering with the Dashboard.

Haha, that's even more strange! But I'm very happy that this has been resolved.

@Andrée Starå Thank for that suggestion. When things weren't working, we started with an incognito session to make sure it wasn't an add on. This has been the strangest problem. I appreciate the help and will definitely make sure that an incognito session is on the troubleshooting list again for the future.
