Smartsheet doesn't stay collapsed

It is frustrating....a royal waste of time and so not intuitive.

Agree with above comment

Pitiful that two years later nothing is done to find a fix. Every time I move away from the tab and come back the table is fully expanded. Wasted time....wasted time.

Hi Shaine,
Has there been any change on this issue. Maybe have a "setting" that allows the users to either collapse or expand upon returning to a page? Is this a possibility?
Thanks

Following up on this. I have one sheet that this occurs with. I have to collapse all every time I return to the sheet. No one else uses it but me.
Thanks

This became very frustrating for us yesterday. We have a custom project sheet we built which is the nucleus of our IT dept. There are currently about 200+ rows containing tasks and substasks (along with cell links to deeper project sheets projects) on it.
When the CIO and his VPs meet (of which I am one) each week, we are (starting yesterday) reviewing this sheet with a filter on which shows only the HIGH priority tasks/projects. We go row by row to discuss these.
But we don't want to see the subtasks during these discussions, so we keep the rows collapsed (well, we try to, but Smartsheet undoes it).
The sheet automatically saves itself every few minutes (seems like about every 5 mins) and then EXPANDS everything.
Once we realized what happened, we collapsed it again and carried on. But then, right in the middle of our discussion with several eyes on the sheet and someone in the middle of an importance sentence, Smartsheet will interrupt the whole affair by re-saving and re-expanding all the rows. So the CIO has to collapse again, and so on.
This happened at least three times in one meeting, probably more like 4 or 5.
I understand someone has set this as expected behavior but I think that is a mistake.
If the sheet is going to autosave (which seems like a somewhat new change but is probably a good thing), my expected behavior as a user would be Smartsheet doesn't disrupt my work when it's finished.
It should return everything to the way it was before it was autosaved. So if a filter was applied, that filter stays applied (which it does) and, in this context I'm commenting on here: if the rows were collapsed, they stay collapsed.

Hello,
Thank you for making us aware of your scenario, where expanded subtasks after a sheet saves is counter-productive. Please submit a Product Enhancement Request when you have a moment to let our Product Team know about your experience.
To prevent this in the future, you can adjust your auto-save settings in your Personal Settings. Instead of having the sheet auto-save after a period of inactivity, you could just check the box for "Auto-Save my changes when I leave a sheet, report, or dashboard."
Please note that all shared users would need to update this in their personal settings so that the sheet doesn't auto-save when you are all looking at it due to someone else's settings.Need more help? 👀 | Help and Learning Center
