Auto Populate Contact List Field based on value in another field.

I want to populate a name(s) in a Contact list based on the value of another field. For example: If a cell contains "Copyediting" I want Holly's name to be added to Additional Assets (a contact list).

Hi Jeana,

You can use the VLOOKUP function. That's the only function that will allow you to use a formula with a contact. Put the formula in the contact cell you want to populate.

Thanks Connor, I tend to stay away from VLOOKUP because a column move or delete will break the formula. I used a simple IF statement to populate the field, however it doesn't enter the person as a "Contact". That may not matter in this case but does anyone know how to add someone as a Contact based on a formula?

Hi @Jeana

To add to Connor’s excellent suggestion.

You can also use a combination of INDEX and MATCH. With that option, you don’t need to worry about where the columns are located + it’s more secure.
