Workflow Condition Field won't auto populate contacts

I have created a workflow to alert a person the day a task is due based in part by an Assigned To field.

When setting parameters in the flow, because the column is set as a Contact List, I would expect all of those fields asking for a name to autofill. That has not been my experience.

Per the first screen shot you'll see when in the conditions field the only thing drop down is my name. Manually adding a person's name seems to be the only way to do that which seems especially silly since an error there would blow up the whole flow.

Only once I get down to assigning the alert, does the contact list autofill seem to work.

I hope I'm missing something and this isn't the way it is.
